Mr. Jim Walton, President
CNN News Group
One CNN Center
Atlanta, Georgia 30303
Dear Mr. Walton:
We are the Presidents of CWA and NABET-CWA respectively. NABET-CWA has represented the technical and engineering employees of your subcontractors in Washington, D.C. and New York for approximately twenty years. During that time, despite the vicissitudes of the many employers utilized by CNN, our members professionally and loyally carried out their duties so that CNN is now technically on a par with our other major television employers: ABC, NBC and Fox. As their representative, NABET-CWA has sought, in both locations, to assist CNN in its quest for excellence. We have led the way in training your workers, as well as maintaining and promoting the highest professional standards.
Each and every current employee in Washington and New York has already proven his or her worth to you. Your management has worked closely for many years with these people. There is no valid reason why each one does not merit working directly for CNN now.
In addition, the labor agreements crafted by TVS recently and by its predecessors were approved by CNN, and continue to provide a viable framework for the employment of your workers.
NABET-CWA and the agents of CNN have worked closely and beneficially for many years, and we see no reason why this relationship should not continue with CNN now as a direct rather than indirect employer.
In view of the mutual interest we both have in the continued, uninterrupted delivery of high- quality news, I suggest we meet at a mutually agreeable time to discuss these issues. So long as our relationship is respected, you can count on our continued cooperation.
Very truly yours,
Morton Bahr John S. Clark
