Welcome to the official website for NABET-CWA Local 31. We are the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians, a sector of the Communications Workers of America. |
|

|
Our Union strives to provide its members with a sense of pride and dignity in the workplace, while maintaining quality work conditions and fair wages. Over the years, NABET-CWA has fought for and won benefits and wages for its represented members which include a union shop, 8-hour work days, vacations, holidays, sick leave, insurance, overtime pay, pension plans, seniority, grievance and arbitration, safety, and health. NABET-CWA is proud of its fine tradition of democracy. Our members are well served by officers and staff whose roots are in the broadcast industry. |

 |
Our members have a key role in the broadcast industry, producing quality news and sports programming, seen and heard around the world. Local 31 members include broadcast professionals employed by ABC, ABC Radio, NBC, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), National Public Radio (NPR), Cable News Network (CNN), WRC-TV, WJLA-TV, WHUT-TV, WMAL/WRQX, House Recording Studios, Senate Recording Studios, Montgomery Community Television, as well as production and crewing companies throughout the Southeast United States. Recently, our members at WSVN-TV in Miami have joined with us to better serve our total membership in South Florida. |

CWA Supports Democrats?
"I'm Conservative. Why should I listen to my Union when it comes to the elections?"
CWA supports candidates who support workers' rights. So, the question we ask is, "which candidate?" Not, "which party?" Often the candidate who support work-ing people turns out to be a Democrat, but many times Republicans like LaTourette (R, OH) and McCotter (R, MI) support our issues, so we support them.
There are conservatives, liberals, right-wingers, and left-wingers in CWA. The one thing - the only thing - that really matters is that we are all union members. We all believe in justice on the job and we all believe that our ability to secure good wages, affordable health care, and pensions for our families is the power we have through collective bargaining - the power we have as a Union.
The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) will rebalance the playing-field and give all working people the opportunity to collectively bargain for better wages, health care, pensions, etc.
The beautiful part is that their gain is OUR gain, too. As working people currently without a Union improve their conditions, we benefit in two important ways:
- The lowest paid can lift the industry standards. After all, it's what the company says to keep our wages down. For example, AT&T cries, "We can't compete when Time Warner is paying their employees so much less." Sound familiar?
- As more people come into CWA, the stronger we are. Imagine what we could accomplish!
President Obama has repeatedly promised workers he would sign the Employee Free Choice Act.

What Are Unions?
A union is nothing more complicated than a group of workers who have chosen to band together to promote their common interests. One person standing alone may be weak, but many joined together are powerful.
